U.S. College Standardized Testing

- Along with the ACT, it is one of the standardized tests in the United States being considered for college admissions, similar to the College Scholastic Ability Test in Korea
- Commonly referred to as SAT I (SAT Reasoning Test) and SAT II ( SAT Subject Tests )
- Test scores are used by colleges as a standard guideline to evaluate students from different high schools having different systems
1. Scholastic Aptitude Test
- SAT consists of three major sections, Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing
- SAT Reasoning Test is the most widely- used college entrance exam, generating more focus on the test scores by college admissions officers
2. SAT Subject Test
- 20 multiple-choice standardized tests given on individual subjects such as Math (Math I & II), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Literature, World History, U.S. History, and Foreign Language
- Most colleges and universities require two SAT II test scores, but some of the top schools require students to submit three
3. Exam
- Over 3 million students take the SAT which is owned, published, and developed by the College Board, a non-profit organization in the United States
- In Korea, 10 of the major foreign language high schools administer the exam 5~6 times a year
- In Cebu, St. Theresa College handles the SAT

5. Test Application and Additional Information
Application Submission
- The test is conducted seven times a year, but may slightly differ depending on the country (in Korea, the test is conducted 6 times a year, January, May, June, October, November, and December)
- Students may apply through the internet ((http://www.collegeboard.org), by mail, telephone /fax. However students in Korea may not apply by mail/fax

What you need to bring
- Admission Ticket (can be printed from the College Board homepage under SAT Registration and Scores page)
- Valid Identification Card (Driver’s License, valid passport, resident registration card, etc.); a student ID is not an authorized form of identification
- No. 2 pencil, eraser (pen and mechanical pencils may not be used)
- Calculator (can be used only during the Mathematics sections of the SAT Reasoning and SAT subject tests)
- CD Player and earphones only for the Listening section of the SAT Subject Language test
